BBC Radio One
The Brief
-Design the lighting and video system for the Radio 1 event main stage.
-Book and prep all lighting, video and crew required.
-Set up lighting on main stage over the 2 days prior to the show.
-Oversee and operate visuals for the 2 show days.
-De Rig day after the show.
A dramatic and unique lighting and video design was requested by our client, in order to reinforce the brand as current and dynamic.
The Design
Onstage, 1,200 Barco MiSPHERE are to be arranged in rectangular groups and hung from the back, mid and front truss, to be viewed from the front as an interlocking formation. From any viewpoint a strong sense of depth is to be achieved when illuminated by video images.
Atomic 3K strobes, Mac 2000 profile and Mac 2000 wash lighting fixtures to be used to enhance mood and dramatic effect.
In the audience area, the design is echoed by hanging more groups of MiPHERES from trussing, hung between the audience located kingpoles.

The Outcome

Sugarbabes- photos Nick Jevons
Visiting bands' LDs were able to reproduce their well practiced shows with relative ease, the majority using the Avolites D4 desk. Many were already familiar with the media server, Catlyst, so were able to reap the benefit of running manipulated stock video imagery, and ElectricFly's custom material through the MiSHEREs, for an awe inspiring edge to their repetoir.
BBC TV were able to use footage to create an impressive promo which was broadcast on primetime TV. Edited highlights were also broadcast on BBC3. From the TV point of view, the MiSHPHERE set provided the advantage of numerous physical focal points for the cameras, which gave a unique defining look to the event.
